Tehillim 22 – תהלים כב‏ – Mikraot Gedolot

כָּל דְחָמְיָן לִי יִדְהֲכוּן עֲלָי מִתְגָרְדִין בְּסִפְוָתְהוֹן יְטַלְטְלוּן בְּרֵישֵׁיהוֹן.

All who see me will gloat over¹ me, attacking² with their lips; they will shake³ their heads.

1. Gloat over: laugh at.

2. Attacking: despising.

3. They will shake: and shaking.

כל רואי ילעיגו לי – אלו בניו של המן שהיו מלעיגין עליהם ומניעין ראשיהם ואומרים למחר הם נהרגין.

ג׳מיע מן ראני יהזו בי, ויפאקמון פואההם ויחרכון רווסהם אחתקארא.

וכל מי שרואה אותי ילעג לי וירחיבו את פיותיהם. וגם מנענעים את ראשיהם דרך בזיון.

יפטירו, יפתחו פיותיהם ויניעו ראשם דרך זלזול. תרגם יפטירו ״יפקמון״ שיש לה מובנים שונים ואחד מהם מי ששניו עקומות אף כאן פותחים ומעקמים פיהם דרך לעג וזלזול ומדברים דברי בלע.

יפטירו – יפתחו, כמו: פטר רחם (שמות י״ג:י״ב), [ופטר חמור (שמות י״ג:י״ג), פוטר מים (משלי י״ז:י״ד).]⁠^א

they will open Heb. יפטירו, they open, as: "all that open (פטר) the womb... and firstling (ופטר) of a donkey" (Shemot 13:12-13). [Also]: "like letting out (פוטר) water" (Mishlei 17:14).

כל – גזרות לעג קשורה לעולם עם למ״ד.

יפטירו בשפה – פתרון:⁠^א כמו: פטר רחם (שמות י״ג:י״ב) והבי״ת דרך צחות, כמו: לחמו בלחמי (משלי ט׳:ה׳). ויתכן שתחסר מלה.

ALL THEY THAT SEE ME LAUGH ME TO SCORN. The word la’ag (scorn) in all of its forms is always connected to a lamed.⁠¹

THEY SHOOT OUT THE LIP, THEY SHAKE THE HEAD. The word yaftiru (they shoot out) means, they open. Compare, peter² rechem (openeth the womb) (Exodus 13:12).⁠³

The bet placed in front of the word safah (lip) is there for poetic purposes.⁠⁴ It is like the bet of ve-lachmi (of my bread) in eat of my bread (Prov. 9:5). It is also possible that a word has been omitted from our verse.⁠⁵

1. Our verse reads, yilag li (laugh me to scorn). Hence Ibn Ezra points out that the word la’ag is always followed by li (to me), lo (to him), lehkha (to you), or the like.

2. Peter and yaftiru come from the same root (peh, tet, resh).

3. Ibn Ezra renders yaftiru ve-safah (they shoot out the lip), they open the lip.

4. The bet usually has the meaning of in or with. Thus yaftiru ve-safah would ordinary mean, they open in the lip, or they open with the lip. Each one of these translations makes no sense. Hence Ibn Ezra points out that the bet placed before safah is there for poetic purposes.

5. See Radak who interprets our verse as if written, yaftiru alai ve-safah, they send words against me with their lips. In this case the bet has its usual meaning.

כל ראי ילעיגו לי – כן הם ישראל, כי כל רואיהם ילעיגו להם

יפטירו בשפה – ויפטירו עליהם בשפה דברים של לעג וקלון.

יניעו ראש – ויניעו ראש עליהם.

יפטירו – ישלחו הדברים בשפה, מן פוטר מים (משלי י״ז:י״ד). והשלוח יבא במים, כמו המשלח מעינים (תהלים ק״ד:י׳), והשלוח יבא גם כן בדברים, כמו פיך שלחת ברעה (תהלים נ׳:י״ט), ותרגום והאנשים שלחו (בראשית מ״ד:ג׳): וגובריא אתפטרו.

All that see me laugh me to scorn – This is true of Israel, for all who see them laugh them to scorn;

They shoot out with the lip – and shoot out upon them with the lip words of mockery and insult;

They shake the head – and they shake the head at them. They shoot out (יפטירי): i–e. they send out words with the lip. (This meaning may be illustrated) from "the shooting out (פוטר) of water" (Prov. 17:14). "Sending out" applies also to water, as "He sendeth forth springs" (Ps. 104:10); and it applies also to words, as "Thou sendest out thy mouth to evil" (ibid. 1. 19). cf. also the Targum of שלחו והאנשׁים (and the men were sent away) (Gen. 44:3), which is אתפטרו וגובריא.

עד שכל רואי ילעיגו לי. ויפטירו ר״ל יפתחו בשפתם דברי לעג ולצון. ויפטירו, מלשו פוטר מים (משלי יז, יד). ויניעו ראש דרך ביזוי.

ילעגו לי – בספרים מדוייקים חסר יו״ד והגימ״ל רפה.

יפטירו – ענין פתיחה כמו פוטר מים (משלי י״ז:י״ד).

יפטירו – יפתחו שפתם ללעוג בי וינענעו בראש כדרך המלעיג.

יפטירו – פתיחת השפה להוציא הדיבור, כמו פטר רחם.

שכל רואי ילעיגו לי – כמלעיג על עם גדול שנפל ממדרגתו, ולא לעג לבד כעל דבר בלתי חשוב, כי גם יפטירו בשפה כעל דבר חשוב וגדול, והם אומרים בלעגם

יפטירו בשפה – נראה שאין ר״ל יפתחו שפתותיהם לדבר שא״כ היה כותב יפטירו שפה, רק ר״ל יפתחו פיהם ויוציאו ממנו ע״י תנועת השפה התחתונה קול לעג ובזיון.
