Tehillim 107 – תהלים קז‏ – Mikraot Gedolot

יְשַׁדֵר פִּתְגָמֵי אַסוּתֵיהּ וְיַסֵי יַתְהוֹן וִישֵׁיזֵיב מִלְחַבָּלוּתְהוֹן.

He will send¹ the words of his healing and will heal them, and deliver [them] from being harmed.

1. He will send: he pours out.

יבעת׳ באמרה פישפיהם, וינג׳יהם מן מהלכאתהם.

ומיד הוא שולח את פקודתו וירפא אותם. ויציל אותם מהדברים הממתים אותם.

ישלח, ישלח בפקודתו וירפאם וימלטם מן המשחיתים אותם. ומם משחיתותם במקום מן.

ויעני בקו׳ וימלט משחי]⁠תותם⁠[ וי⁠[... ..... .... ..]⁠ם אלצֺמיר ומשחיתותם יג⁠[וז אן יכון] מן [...] [107 א] מן אפסאדהם ויכון ואחדה שחית או שחיתה פעל או פעילה ויגוז אן יכון מן אצל שחת כורה שחת (משלי כו:כז) פיכון שחית פעלית על וזן כרית¹ ונחל כרית (מלכים א יז:ג) מן כרו לפני (תהלים נז:ז) כי יכרה איש (שמות כא:לג) וגמעה שחיתות ווזנה פעילתות.

1. Mss ברית.

And the meaning of the verse; “He delivered them from their pits” and … the subject and “their pit” … from … destroy them. Its singular aṣl is Sheḥîth or Sheḥîthāh. Peʾal or Peʾîlah. It is possible that its aṣl is SH-Ḥ-T; “He who digs a pit” (Prov. 26:27). Or that it is Sheḥîth from the pattern Berîth, and “and go into hiding by the Wadi Cherith” (Cerîth) (I Kings 7:3) from; “dug a pit for me” (Ps. 57:7 in; “digs a pit” (Ex. 21:33). Its plural aṣl is ‘Sheḥîthôth.’ Its pattern is ‘Peʿîlthôth.’

ישלח דברו – שיגזר ומיד יתרפא לא על ידי משקה ומעשה בן אדם וימלט אותם משחיתותם מגזרת השחתה.

או מן כרה שחת כנגד שערי שאול.

HE SENT HIS WORD. God decrees, and the ill are immediately healed. The ill are not healed by potions nor though the work of man.

AND DELIVERED. Them.⁠¹

FROM THEIR GRAVES. The word mi-shechitotam (from their graves) is connected to the word hashchtah (destruction).⁠² On the other hand, mi-shechitotam may be related to the word shachat (pit) in Whoso diggeth a pit shall fall therein (Prov. 26:27).⁠³

And delivered them from their graves is in contrast to And they drew near unto the gates of death (verse 18).

1. The biblical text literally reads, And delivered from their graves. Ibn Ezra notes that the verse is to be understood as if it were written, “And delivered them from their graves.”

2. According to this interpretation, our verse reads, “And delivered them from their destruction.”

3. In this case, our verse reads, “And delivered them from their pits (graves).”

ישלח דברו וירפאם – לפי שרפואת הרופאים היא במעשה, אמר כי לא כן רפואת השם יתברך, כי בדברו לבד ירפאם.

ודברו הוא רצונו.

וימלט משחיתותם – ימלט נפשם משחת שהיתה קרובה לה, כמו שאמר: ויגיעו עד שערי מות (תהלים ק״ז:י״ח). וכן אמר אליהוא: ותקרב לשחת נפשו (איוב ל״ג:כ״ב). והאחד מן שחיתותם: שחיתה, ובא בו כנוי המ״ם, כי הם גרמו זה בעונם.

משחיתותם – מלשון שחת ובור.

ישלח דברו – לא כרפואת הרופאים שהמה בסממנים כ״א מרפא במאמרו.

משחיתותם – משחת הקבר שהיה קרוב להם.

וימלט – הראוי וימלטם ומסרה מ״ם הכנוי מפני מ״ם של משחיתותם הבאה אחריה.

משחיתותם – מהשחיתות והקברים שכבר הוכנו להם כי חָלְיָם אָנוש.
